Alexander Hamilton to Eliza Schuyler, December 1779-1780. This, along with one of Hamilton’s final letters, was found in a tiny bag around Eliza’s neck after her death. The sonnet was so worn it was sewn together with thread. (via publius-reporter)

I’ve read accounts that say Robespierre, when he was being carried to his execution, lashed out and hit one of the men holding the platform he was sitting on.
The little man still had fight left in him after all, it would seem.
